Dr. Philip C Eyster

A Philadelphia native, Phil trusted Christ in 1963 at the age of six, and then, gave his life to full-time ministry at Urbana '76. He immediately began to preach the Gospel wherever opportunities presented themselves. In college, he preached in churches around New England every weekend. In seminary, he preached almost daily at the Portland (Oregon) Rescue Mission. After seminary, he worked with Here's Life Inner City in New York, and then with Global Field Evangelism (Memphis, TN), where he began his international work. Phil founded Eagle Projects International in 1989 with a very special ministry plan - use open-air field evangelism to help national pastors plant churches in areas with little or no exposure to the Gospel.
Today, EPI's ministry has expanded to dozens of countries around the world. Phil has preached in over 30 nations using various methods of field evangelism and mercy ministry to plant new churches.
Phil received his bachelor's degree from Gordon College in Wenham, Mass., graduating magna cum laude in 1981. He has a Masters of Divinity degree from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon (1984), and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Mid-America Theological Seminary in Germantown, Tennessee (1993). Phil has also studied at Villanova University, Penn State, and Westminster Seminary, Philadelphia.
Phil and his wife, Marcia, have been married since 1981 and have seven children, including two adopted daughters from China. All of them have been homeschooled; the four oldest have graduated college and are working in various fields. When not on a project, Phil and Marcia split their time between Maine and Prince Edward Island, Canada.

This is a book that will take you soaring - with information and inspiration. But first it will bring you down to earth. When I read the first chapter I thought, "I'm glad I wasn't part of Phil's team" - with the snakes, the disposals, the often terrible food. It's not about glamorous travels. Then when I read chapter two I thought, "I wish I could have been there" - to see God at work. Here is the moving, real, down to earth story of how God led one man to make a difference - not with glamor, but with grit and grace, and not for a year or two but a lifetime of faithful ministry. I wish every young evangelist could read it.

Every man or woman who answers God's call to ministry comes to the altar with some idea of where they would like to serve, whether it is a glistening cathedral, a humble country church, or somewhere in the mission field. Raised on the teachings of men such as J. Hudson Taylor and C.S. Spurgeon, Dr. Philip C. Eyster, believed his calling was to be an evangelist but he didn’t know how or where God would lead him. Eventually, God led him all over the world wherever there was need for the light of the Gospel.
Through preaching, teaching, physical labor, and medical clinics Dr. and his organization have been demonstrating God's love and healing power wherever there was need and a little space to meet the need. Over the years they have criss-crossed continents, planting churches, building orphanages, providing eyeglasses, and giving sanctuary for those shunned by society or victimized by poverty and perversity. These reflections collected over 50 years show the reality of field ministry: the humor, the tears, the dangers, and the miracles.
